Facebook Down, Like Buttons Vanish, Internet Implodes — September 24, 2010

Facebook Down, Like Buttons Vanish, Internet Implodes

Facebook Down, Like Buttons Vanish, Internet Implodes.

According to techcrunch Facebook was down today

If you’re currently writing us an email to tip us that Facebook is down, you can stop — we’ve gotten a few hundred of those in the past few minutes. Yes, Facebook appears to be down at the moment. I’m currently getting a DNS failure message (above), others are apparently seeing other things.

This is a problem not just because the site is down, but Facebook’s omnipresent Like button is also completely down, so the entire Internet (or a good percentage of it) is feeling this pain. We’ve reached out to Facebook to see what is up. More to come. – TechCrunch

4th Generation iPod – Coming september 2010 — August 16, 2010

4th Generation iPod – Coming september 2010

Recent rumors have been running on the web that Apple is going to launch their 4th generation iPod touch this september. Good news is that it will have 2 cameras for Facetime and have the awesome Retina display that the iPhone 4 has. If existing pricing is anything to go by, expect the new iPod to launch at something between $299 to $399 . If it is going to be $299, people will flock to buy it, I know I will.

In expectation of this, some retail stores have dropped the prices of current iPods to make room for new ones.

iPod 4g

I have been following recent developments in both camps at Apple and Android. Both launched great new phones in the past few months. Unfortunately if you are like me, you don’t want to spend $700+ on a smart phone. So the solution I have devised it to look at the next best alternative, the iPod touch.

Apple launches a new iPod line every september. They have been consistent in this regard. If you have seen the iPod touch 8GB (which is really a second gen iPod touch) you’ll see that it does everything an iPhone 3G does except for calls, camera and GPS. But for someone like me who already has a pretty good Nokia, I need the gadget for the extra stuff, like email, browsing, facebook and most importantly games.

So the deal right now is that the iPod Touch 8GB is for $199. Considering the facts, the iPod 8GB will be discontinued (in the same lines as the iPhone 3G was discontinued on the launch of iPhone 4), and the iPod 32GB will be dropped to $199. The iPod 4 should start at $299. If thats the case, budget buyers should be able to get the old iPod 8GB for very low prices on stores and someone who can afford it, should go for the new Retina-awesome iPod 4!

Skype comes to Ovi Store for Nokia 5530, 5800, 5230, N97 and X6 touchscreen phones — March 24, 2010

Skype comes to Ovi Store for Nokia 5530, 5800, 5230, N97 and X6 touchscreen phones

I was going through the Ovi store the other day on my wife’s Nokia 5530 xpress music touchscreen phone. I stumbled upon Skype for Nokia touchscreen phones. I have been using Fring but the experience wasn’t very good. My contacts would not show up online and many other issues.

So I downloaded and installed Skype on the Nokia 5530 and I started it up. From the first screen I knew this was going to solve my problems. The application looks awesome, has the Skype easy and simple user experience and you can do anything you want from Skype directly on your Nokia 5530.

  • Sign in or Sign up
  • Send and Receive Calls using WiFi (I would recommend not using a data plan connection)
  • IM contacts
  • Share pictures, videos etc
  • Use phone contacts to call

One thing that I did find missing was the conference feature. Good thing if someone using a desktop skype conferences you in, you wont have that issue.

All in all, a must have app for the Nokia touchscreen series phones.
