view of the stadium

I had the opportunity to attend a live football match between AC Milan and Hamburg when I went to Dubai on last month. The ticket was reasonably priced at Dhs. 100

As the match day came closer, the sports section of Khaleej times started posting rumors if David Beckham would play or not, as he got injured during a practice match.

The commute to the stadium was painful, we drove bumper to bumper on the Dubai – Abu Dhabi highway for least half an hour. Even when we got there, we had to drop off on the road as the line to the parking area was really really long. After tresspassing the stadium presmises going through barbed wire fences (we we’re the only ones), through the practice rugby and football grounds we got to the actual ground where the match was being played. The crowd was roaring.

We were directed to our economy stand which was behind the goal posts, apparently the side view stands were only for the VIP’s.

Once we got in, the feeling was unbelievable. The pictures don’t do justice to the atmosphere and feel of the stadium.

Since I haven’t been following sports, I was amazed to see Ronaldinho, Kaka, Shevchenko, Maldini, Inzaghi, Dida, Gattuso, Pirlo and ofcourse David Beckham

Because of the traffic, we got to the stands in the 35th minute of the first half. There were camera flashes and roars everytime Beckham got the ball or Ronaldinho tries to dribble his way to the goal.

It ended 0-0. David Beckham got subbed in the second half.

In the 62nd minute, AC Milan got a penalty after a foul on Ambrosini. Ronaldinho took and shoot and scored the first goal of the match.

Hamburg equalize the score in the 67th minute with a corner kick, Olic heads the ball and despite Dida making an effort to block the ball, Benjamin arrives on time to just tap the ball to the back of the net.

The game comes to 1-1 at fulltime and then its time for penalties. AC Milan win on penalties 4-3
